ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discusses in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book's initial chapter briefly describes the group and its principal tenets and methods. It introduces G. A. Cohen, Jon Elster, and John Roemer, the three principal figures of the group. The Analytical Marxist Rejection of Classical Marxism emphasizes a central theme of the book: in their efforts to bring Marxism up to date, the analytical Marxists have criticized classical Marxism in withering terms. The book shows, the analytical Marxists reject the labor theory of value, what happens to the claim that workers are exploited. It talks about analytical Marxism versus libertarian rights", wherin Cohen's arguments are rejected. The book presents the critics of Cohen which have centered on the charge that collective unfreedom is unimportant. Finally, the book considers "the socialist alternative", although analytical Marxists believe that socialism ought to replace capitalism.
