ABSTRACT
This chapter argues that long before unemployment reaches such high numbers, the emotional polarization will have increased to the point that social movements will have begun to shake up all institutional systems. Yet, as the low pay associated with many such jobs has become more widespread, it has become difficult to believe that these jobs represent upward social mobility. Digital revolution from the middle is not what Marx would have predicted, but it will be as forceful as Marx would have hoped, because it will involve most of the population. In the United States and other post-industrial countries, tax revenues collected from companies have decreased as companies keep money overseas and lobby for favourable tax treatment. Poor people who cannot find enough food and who must live in crowded spaces will need help from the governments of post-industrial societies at the very time when these governments will be increasingly short of tax revenue.
