ABSTRACT

How satisfying it would be to pause now and summarize the wisdom of gene-centered revolutionary biology, to wrap everything up in a tidy package and say, “This is what it is to be made of genes, by genes and for genes, also to share genes with and interact with others, and at the same time to be an individual of the species Homo sapiens—in short, this is what it is to be human.” But something is missing. And no one knows exactly what!
