ABSTRACT

The culmination of the effort and waiting that go into the production of rice paddy is in the sale of the harvest, and over two-thirds of the village crop is sold for cash. In most respects the marketing process is a simple one, but the market structure has been changing in recent years, possibly less in the area of Khanh Hau than elsewhere. It would be best to describe the market for rice from the farmer through all intermediate stages to retail and export, but this information was not readily available. The portion of the market process described here offers only the limited view as villagers tend to see it.
