ABSTRACT

The stone quarry was the place with the worst working conditions and newcomers were often assigned there. The work in the quarry was so hard that it would be fair to say that it was specifically designed to kill people. The work was very difficult and it was made more unbearable by a particularly ill-tempered overseer. The German mentality was very rigid and in this instance, actually worked in people favor. To make it less likely that the authors would talk, the authors were kept away from other inmates during the daytime, and worked only at night. The truth was that the authors became so involved in the job itself that the authors were able to momentarily forget how small people chances of survival were. In 1942, the Germans began constructing the Gustloff Munitions Factory outside of Buchenwald. It was actually a complex of factories.
