ABSTRACT

The end of the Cold War and of ideology-related confrontation between the East and the West created more favorable conditions for world community to advance towards the establishment of the culture of peace. Nowadays the culture of peace and accord is vital both as a visualized strategy, and on the other hand—as a plan of actions. The key principle of such a plan should become the establishment of culture of peace and tolerance in the context of comprehensive democratic reforms. Much space in culture of peace is given to a life-long education. The role of the Council for cultural cooperation of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) participating states has to be noted. The Council elaborates draft agreements and programs, and after having been signed at the level of heads of governments, these documents make a good starting point for interstate cooperation in the cultural sphere through better knowledge of each other, and the promotion of better mutual understanding.
