ABSTRACT

Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is aware that its role on the world stage is pivotal in more than one way. For one, the role that oil plays in preserving peace by means of continuing to provide a constant supply of oil and gas, at a reasonable price level for both producers and consumers, rich and poor alike. OPEC's overall commitment and priority is to eradicate poverty to achieve sustainable development in general and sustainable livelihood in particular. OPEC has worked hard to provide security and balance during the invasion in Iraq. The mission of the OPEC Fund is to promote solidarity among countries of the South, encourage co-operation between OPEC Member Countries and other developing nations and make efforts to contribute to the development efforts that these countries are already making. The Fund's main focus is the poorest and neediest segments within these countries.
