ABSTRACT

Parliamentary socialism harvests the inheritance of the old democracy. The promoters of social catholicism never separate peace among the classes from accord inside the same classes. According to Kautsky, contemporary capitalism displays a characteristic somewhat unforeseen and unique, and which we must emphasize if we want to understand the present trends in socialism. If things come about as Kautsky thinks, the economic bridge between the two successive societies is broken: there may be a wide-reaching revolution, but it will be the product of force pure and simple. The phenomenon noted by Kautsky depends on the position that the nobility occupies in the army; it intends to exert an influence on the state by dint of its military importance. Near the state live the great speculators who form the financial aristocracy that, according to Kautsky, tends to govern the modern world.
