ABSTRACT
The readings in this section concentrate on changes in members’ behavior and attitudes as they occur over time. All experimental research in field situations is difficult to set up and control, but long-term studies are particularly troublesome. The first study is an excellent example of a controlled experimental culture, designed and manipulated to explore specific hypotheses. The Menzel and Lieberman studies both make use of naturally occurring varia tions of the independent variable.
