ABSTRACT

Steve Case has a track record of taking new technologies and making them into gigantic enterprises that change the way we live. Today, Case has brought his business-building acumen to both the entrepreneurial for-profit sphere and the philanthropic world. Case built and lost one business empire, generating a considerable fortune along the way. For the next decade, from 1985 to 1995, Case focused on keeping the firm in business and getting people to believe that some day they would live in a more interactive world. Case's non-profit involvement with Hawaii has mirrored his foundation's overarching goals of alleviating poverty, creating sustainable economic development, and increasing civic engagement. Continuing its innovative strategy, in mid-2007, the Case Foundation launched Make It Your Own Awards. By blending purpose and profit, Case will demonstrate that entrepreneurs can do well and do good at the same time and help solve large-scale social problems.
