ABSTRACT

Technology has been the keystone of US power since World War II. America entered World War II with a poorly equipped army, air force and navy. At the start of World War II, the smartest nation was Germany in the sense that Germany was rebuilding its military-industrial base, harnessing its technology to perceived military requirements, and developing doctrines and operational know-how essential to its ambitions. In the modern era, technology's role is greater than in the past because technological cycles are faster than ever before. Smart nations understand that they need to find, organize, manage, and deploy the right military technologies required for national security. The T-34 played a major role in winning World War II. It was American technology that helped contribute to Russia's impressive battle victories. The one bright spot for the Russians was a clear recognition by military planners and the Politburo that something needed to be done about the situation.
