ABSTRACT

In his simple and concise statement, Paul B. Sears, botanist and ecologist, sets forth his belief that a permanent and intelligent order for mankind cannot be achieved until we realize that the great scientific laws that govern our technology apply equally to the living landscape of which we are a part. In 1950, Dr. Sears established at Yale University one of the country's first graduate programs of research and instruction in the conservation of natural resources. His code required him to test and verify continually, with the aid of his five senses, those phenomena which interest him. But he continually sought to probe beyond their limits, by means of induction, deductions and inferences that seem most reasonable in the light of what he already knew. Special Creation had been subjected to increasing strains as soon as men began to travel widely and explore all the continents.
