ABSTRACT

There are always conflicting interests. However, the bloodiest fighting has been not between civilizations but within them—in World War II (WWII). As British Prime Minister Tony Blair said in 2006, "This is not a clash between civilizations. It is a clash about civilization. People are far more alike than they are different and share basic moral intuitions; many care less about parochial culture than about universal values of democracy, personal freedom, and economic advancement. When Europe was in the Dark Ages, Muslims were the vanguard of civilization, excelling in science, mathematics, engineering, arts and literature, and the art of life itself—a burst of vitality by a new culture. Historian Bernard Lewis deems secularization a key factor in the West's technological, cultural, and political progress, while the Muslim world has been held back by failure to separate mosque and state. Muslims are a minority in India, but it's the second biggest Muslim population on Earth.
