ABSTRACT

Most of this text deals with child welfare and family services-the key programs, the important service delivery issues, the challenges facing such services, and the practice principles gleaned from careful research. Delivering and improving these services contribute to children’s well-being and are central tasks of social workers. These services do not, by themselves, guarantee the well-being of children. For healthy growth and development, children need parents with adequate incomes to provide the material essentials of life-food, clothing, shelter, medical care, etc. If parental income is low or absent, children need to rely on income support programs for these resources.
