ABSTRACT
One of the main contentions of this book is that the growth of population is a major determinant of technological change in agriculture. If this is so, it follows that there must have been some similarity between the rates at which population was growing and the rates at which technological change was occurring. This chapter examines these problems in some more detail, and in the light of historical experience.
