ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines a new sphere of activity and accompanying mental attitude in which social engineering finds a tremendously important outlet for its bent for organization and uniformization. Domestic stability releases a considerable interest and energy for external action which pours into the channels feeding the network of international coexistence and planning. There is more than a remote analogy between, the inner disunity and conflicts of Western societies, the resulting ideological strifes and the triumph of the social engineers, and the fierce competition and wars of the "planetary society," its ideological conflicts and the increasing authority of technical solutions. Uniformity of conduct is thus secured together with ideological consensus; the danger of ideological deviation and unorthodox behaviour is thus drowned in the sea of psychological manipulation by publicity and propaganda, the condition of an orderly circulation through the avenues of the classless society.
