ABSTRACT

As a title for my essay I have finally settled on “Three Worlds of Development: An African Context.” This I do for a number of reasons. First, Horowitz’s conceptualization of “development” is in broad and global terms. Change and development occur structurally in societies and must be viewed in ecumenical and catholic terms. The consideration of development and change even for single societies must carry the wide consciousness of a global imprint. Change within Africa or Latin America can best be comprehended in terms of the changes observable in the relationships of man to the rest of his society. The activities within social institutions affect and are affected by the structure of societies.
