As the student might guess, the characteristics of the kinds of jobs that are highly rated in the society are the traits that correlate positively with job satisfaction: freedom from super¬ vision, control over the pace of work, the challenge of the job, informal social relations on the job, and even the prestige of the job itself. These ñndings apply to jobs in other industrial countries as well.
