ABSTRACT

This chapter describes that dominionization is one of the powerful forces spurring the species on to vitalize the planet and the universe in general. The achievement of dominionization is occurring in the midst of the Macroindustrial Era, a watershed period in societal evolution. The efforts to achieve dominionization over the basic forces of nature and over the Earth itself have a major beneficial by-product–the creation of a superabundance of food, goods, sources of energy, and manufactured products. In fact, economic growth and technology directly counteract environmental degradation. Nanotechnology will enable to develop "smart materials" that could adjust to changes in the environment and advanced materials so durable that they could withstand the stress of protracted space travel. The chapter deals with Macroindustrial Era activities that would extend humanity's influence over six separate dimensions: time, physical space, quantity, quality, scope, and size.
