ABSTRACT

The terror activity of the Afghan alumni throughout the world since the early nineties influenced the structure of local terror in the Arab countries and in the international arena as well. The Al-Qaida organization was responsible for a relatively small number of attacks out of the sum total of attacks perpetrated by terror organizations affiliated with the stream of Sunni Islamic Fundamentalism. Al-Qaida members were the suicide attacks at the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in August 1998. The pinnacle of the Al-Qaida attacks was the combined terror attack in the United States against the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, whose aim was to deal a heavy blow to the very heart of the United States and the symbols of American power, and incite a global battle between Islam and the West. The Al-Qaida command considers Europe an important central arena to promote the concepts of the Global Jihad and realize the vision of Islamic Caliphate throughout the world.
