ABSTRACT

The Jews of America are influential–not, as in the view of some, like Jimmy Carter, too influential–but we certainly do have our ability to influence policy in ways that were not possible in 1938. In this chapter the author refers to something happening today on the hard left and in some respects on the hard right–but he thinks we're more focused on the hard left because the hard left is more influential today on college and university campuses and in Europe. What is happening on the hard left is not only extreme criticism of Israel, along with attempts to de-legitimate the Jewish State and Zionism, but something far, far worse. What we are really seeing, for the first time, is a dehumanization of Israel, a dehumanization of Israelis and a dehumanization of Jewish supporters of Israel, and I do not mean only Jewish supporters on the hard right.
