ABSTRACT

Didi is a professional woman in her late forties. Single and some-what attractive, she is moderately successful in her career. However, Didi is worried that she is going nowhere. She works too hard at a job that is no longer very challenging. From its inception, the notion of adaptation has been widely prevalent in this society, since it is optimistically assumed that man has the intellectual capacity of reasoning and learning which can help him overcome his emotional shortcomings and improve his social condition. The concept of social adjustment that identifies an individual's ability to act within the framework of acceptable social behavior and avoiding the unacceptable varies according to the field of social science which evaluates it and of the society under discussion. The lasting traits of personality should be the markers of one's behavior, determining to a great extent the individual's style of coping with life events.
