ABSTRACT

The housing problems of African-Americans are best understood in the context of larger national trends. Given the significant progress in housing status for all Americans that occurred over the last 50 years, it is tempting to view the nation's current housing problems, especially affordability, as just a "bump in the road." Some changes can be expected such as reduction in interest rates, containment of housing speculation, more flexible regulation, or a new federal initiative to address the housing difficulties faced, including those of blacks identified in Chapter 6.
