ABSTRACT

Urban public schools, by most accounts, are failing. A disproportionate number of former students of inner-city public school districts of all races falter in the workplace. Current and former students are not learning, which is a failure in achievement; and too many students drop out or do not complete their post-secondary education, which is a failure in attainment. This is a rather roundabout way of saying that, even if a student graduates from an inner-city high school, he or she may not have learned enough to succeed at either a job or in more advanced learning.
