ABSTRACT
A great deal about the processes of soil formation in tropical and equatorial areas still remains undiscovered; and an account of this subject without reference to the complexities of chemistry and biology is likely to be grossly oversimplified. However, the geographer with insufficient knowledge of physical science is on fairly safe ground i f he works from the assumption that farmers everywhere will seek out the best soils for their purposes whenever there is a choice.
