This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides an overview of a host of issues germane to the prevention and intervention of genocide. It discusses the abject failures and moderate successes vis-a-vis prevention and intervention carried out in the 1990s and early 2000s and explains a succinct discussion vis-à-vis the efforts to develop a workable, effective and efficient genocide early warning system. The book also discusses the complexity of and barriers to prevention, and examines many of the ideas/efforts/"advancements" in the area of genocide prevention. It examines the pros and cons and strengths and weaknesses of different types of sanctions as they relate to applying pressure on perpetrators of genocide. The book explores the history of and latest thinking vis-à-vis the issue of state sovereignty and the intervention of genocide. It outlines a fascinating discussion of the concept of an anti-genocide regime.
