ABSTRACT

Hassan al Turabi's movement like other Islamic organizations and movements, aspires to establish an economic, political, and social order on the basis of the Sharia and Islamic values, and the Islamic state in Sudan constitutes a stage in the foundation of an Islamic faithful society. In 1980, al Turabi founded the National Islamic Front (NIF) party, which constituted a coalition and roof organization of several Islamic parties and organizations, headed by the Muslim Brotherhood. In 1987, the NIF formulated a document called "The Sudan Charter" that summarizes the worldview of the Front in matters pertaining to religion, society, and state, and which constitutes the ideological and political platform of the movement. Cooperation and coordination with various Islamic movements constitute a central principle of al Turabi's concept. Al Turabi asserts that Islam contains all of the positive values inherent to ideologies that have flourished in Western culture.
