ABSTRACT

If P is for Problem, Q is for Question. And if P presents a particularly puzzling problem for insects, Q is unquestionably a question to quench all but the most unquenchable entomological enthusiasm. For the bees well know, what most human beings forget, that the primary duty of the Queen as Queen is to propagate the species, than which there can be no higher duty. It is because she fulfils this duty that they allow her to dominate over the hive and to issue commands without asking further questions of her or making further demands on her. She is Queen, and they obey her, not reluctantly but readily, because it is the nature of the Bee to do so. Not that the English are as intelligent as the Bee, for then we wouldn't have any reason to go to school with the Bee.
