ABSTRACT

In this epilogue the author have two duties to carry out before bringing this book to an appropriate conclusion. The first, and most difficult, duty is to find a suitable title to do with insects that begins with Y. The second, and more congenial, duty is to offer an apology to those entomologists who may have perused these pages. Here precisely lies the significance behind my alteration of Wordsworth's poetic "Intimations of Immortality" to the more philosophical and mystical title of "Yintimations of Yantomology". This is no mere play on "Yinsex and Yansex". Rather, it comprehends the ultimate duality in the created world, as recognized in traditional Chinese philosophy between Yin and Yang. Applying the basic duality to insects, the "intimations" as no more than shadowy suggestions arising from the earthly darkness of ignorance of "the works and days" of insects.
