ABSTRACT

The two main Islamic terror organizations in Egypt, Al-Jama'a al-Islamiya and the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, have carried out suicide attacks in Egypt and beyond its boundaries. In the months of August-September 1999, a series of grave terror attacks took place against civilian targets in Russia, with the emphasis on Moscow, the capital. Prior to the terror attack at the Moscow theater in October 2002, Chechen suicide attacks were perpetrated only in Chechnya itself, and they were directed mainly at security forces and/or government and Russian security facilities. A female suicide terrorist named Dhano, who was in the midst of an audience at an election rally in Madras, approached Gandhi, supposedly to present him with a bouquet of flowers, and detonated herself with a belt bomb concealed under her clothing.
