ABSTRACT

White Anglo-Saxon Protestants (WASP) is the standard by which groups in American society judge themselves as well as others. The WASP mother's fondest dream is being undercharged eleven cents in the middle of a snowstorm, for it gives her a golden opportunity to teach a moral lesson. WASPs are far less likely to be turned down by Catholic-and Jewish-dominated golf clubs than the other way around. In 1964 Dr. Baltzell wrote in The Protestant Establishment that unless the WASP establishment opened up its ranks to other groups it would continue to decline in power. In The Protestant Establishment Professor E. Digby Baltzell writes about the success of the honor system at Princeton. Finally, it should be remembered that Protestantism is not the only religion that urges people to behave honorably. Catholicism and Judaism are also based on the Old Testament.
