ABSTRACT

Surveyed a s a whole , ever y ag e ha s it s characteristi c approac h t o th e grea t human dilemmas, including the question of woman's place. Today, in an epoch of equalization, it is not surprising to find the second sex ranged with excluded and subject peoples in a revolt sparked by rising expectations an d revolutionary possibilities. Unfortunately, a s with other emotionally charged issues, most discussion goes forward on the basis of folklore and folk myth. It will therefore be the object of this work to study th e concept o f woman through an analysis first o f stereotypes of role: preforme d patterns of place; and second, of assumptions of reasoning: preforme d pattern s of thought. Thes e two approaches wil l serve as alternate lenses for viewing the same phenomenon.
