ABSTRACT

This chapter offers outside help leading to cultural development in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). It focuses on the practical side of the leisure pursuits and community involvement. Activity participants steadfastly pursue a form of leisure requiring systematic physical movement that has intrinsic appeal and is conducted within a set of rules. The nature challenge activity (NCA) is leisure whose core activity or activities center on meeting a natural test posed by one or more of six elements: air, water, land, animals, plants, and ice or snow. Adults entering the corporeal activities of swimming and gymnastics for routine exercise usually take classes at a public or private pool or gym. The main popular and traditional games of the MENA have already been described. Some educational volunteers work under a teacher's supervision tutoring students with problems in areas such as reading, spelling, and mathematics.
