ABSTRACT

Javier is 17 years old and has Williams syndrome. Although Javier is very popular at school, he really doesn't have many friends to do things with after school. At the ITP meeting, which Javier also attends, Mrs. Gonzales voices her concerns about Javier's lack of after-school activities and friends. The team sits quietly trying to think of ways to get Javier involved. Finally, Mrs. Gonzales breaks the silence by saying that a few weeks ago, she attended the open house of a new Jewish Community Center not far from my house. The center has lots of activities that would be perfect for Javier. Mrs. Herndon then suggests that they need to decide what needs to be done to make this recreation program happen. Everyone wants Javier to have a new recreation program to go to in the afternoon. Javier's ITP team is very supportive, and Mrs. Gonzales feels that soon Javier will be doing more than watching TV after school.
