ABSTRACT

Amuary Perez is a veteran APE specialist at Everglades High School within the Collier County Public School District located on the southwest coast of Florida near Naples. Under Mr. Holmes's leadership, Everglades High has established several community-focused after-school programs. Amuary is very organized and motivated, and his knowledge of sports and fitness is impressive. Before class begins, Amuary's students change into their PE uniforms in the locker room. Changing clothes can be a very difficult time for the boys with disabilities. Amuary knows that the daily arguments, teasing, and chatter in the locker room must be handled in an effective and thoughtful manner. So he decides to have an awareness talk with all of the 9th-grade boys. Amuary randomly monitors the locker room during changing times and records each student's behaviors on a tally sheet. This token economy system combined with response cost strategy has worked very well over the past couple of weeks.
