ABSTRACT

Jackson Stivrens is a general physical education teacher at Sojourner Truth Elementary School. His first year at Sojourner Truth Elementary School has been a big adjustment for him because of a lack of parental support and daily disciplinary concerns because some of the children in his classes frequently misbehave. He thinks that most of these children do not feel threatened when they choose to misbehave, do not listen, or overstep their boundaries as students. After much thought, he decides it is time to meet with Ms. Lewis, the school principal. He recites an exhaustive list of concerns as Ms. Lewis listens. Ms. Lewis also suggests that he look into the Consistency Management and Cooperative Discipline program. Ms. Lewis and Jackson also decide to have a group meeting to have an awareness talk with the students to help address the ongoing disciplinary problem. Jackson feels that these strategies will help to shape the attitudes and behaviors of most of his students.
