ABSTRACT

Renee Moore is an induction GPE teacher at Northwest High School. She is motivated and feels that she is making a difference in the lives of her students. Recently, Renee was concerned about one student in particular, D'Angelo, who has a learning disability concomitant with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Early one morning, Renee meets with Ms. Lattimore, a special education teacher at the school, to discuss D'Angelo's case. The next day, Renee has an opportunity to speak with D'Angelo after class and express her concerns regarding his aggressiveness toward classmates. Using her textbooks and the World Wide Web, Renee reads up on behavior management methods and about strategies for teaching students with learning disabilities and ADHD. Renee also uses planned ignoring with those students who tease each other, unless the teasing becomes excessive or leads to additional inappropriate behaviors.
