ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a case study of Mr. Roberts who is a high school physical education teacher and has been teaching for more than 17 years. At the beginning of the school year, at the fall teachers' meetings, Mr. Roberts meets the new interpreters for Cory. In his conversations, he learns that Cory was recently diagnosed with Usher syndrome and is also losing his vision. Mr. Roberts meets Cory and asks if they could discuss his future needs. Cory appears depressed and unenthusiastic about his new physical education class. During the first week, Mr. Roberts sets up a disability awareness program. The first unit is soccer. Cory chooses his position, the color of the pinnies, and a few rule modifications. Cory later expresses to Mr. Roberts that he is looking forward to trying out for the basketball team in November. Mr. Roberts is now thinking about how he is going to modify the volleyball and gymnastics units for Cory.
