ABSTRACT

Karin is a 10th grader at Woodbridge High School who has mobility difficulties ever since she was in elementary school. Given that Karin does not meet any of the criteria for receiving special education services, per any intellectual or academic diagnoses, Mr. Kim, the counselor at Woodbridge High School, feels that a multifactored motor assessment should be conducted to determine her present level of performance. Based on the assessment results, Ms. Kirk recommends that Karin should continue to have GPE and receive APE direct service once a week for 45 minutes each session, that she should participate in activities that address abdominal strength, and that she should participate in activities that stress gross motor skills. Karin's mother is told her rights as a parent and quickly acknowledges her understanding of these rights. Ms Kirk feels that Karin is slowly getting her self-esteem back, because she can participate, by herself, in motor activities without the fear of embarrassment.
