ABSTRACT

Jeremy is only 5 years old, small for his age, with the most angelic face, big blue eyes, and a smile that makes everyone around him melt. From the principal to the custodian, everyone at Bluestone is concerned about Jeremy. When Jeremy was 2 years old, he was diagnosed with autism by his pediatrician. He was then referred to the Stony Cliff School District, where he was tested by special education staff and determined to be a child with a developmental delay. After Jeremy's parents and the other key members of the IEP team are introduced, the meeting commences with a review of Jeremy's present level of performance. Mr. Riley, the special education teacher at Bluestone, spends several minutes outlining the various placement options available to Jeremy from full-time regular class placement with full-time support from Mr. Riley and his new teacher assistant, Mr. Ball, to full-time special education placement.
