ABSTRACT

Microprocessors were originally developed as large-scale integrated circuits for powerful mainframe computers. The range of microprocessor applications continues to widen as new sensor and image processing technologies are applied in production equipment. The rationalization and integration of information and communication throughout the company helps everyone in the company feel they are playing on the same team and can respond to changes with smooth teamwork. Production managers should also recognize how numerically controlled machines and other factory automation equipment can aid their development of multiprocess handling by multiskilled operators. In factories, they are applied in labor-saving numerically controlled machines and in advanced automation equipment such as industrial robots, welders, and painter/coaters. Numerical data relating to production efficiency, defect rates, and production flow can be accessed from the point of production system at any time and in any part of the company.
