ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes key concepts from the videotape: "Sustain" to guide participants in 5S implementation team during implementation work on the floor. "Sustain" suggests training and communication strategies for building the self-discipline that makes 5S activities a habit and allows their benefits to spread. In Sustain, participants will learn about the following five conditions required to make a habit out of the beneficial changes they have made in the target area: development of new awareness and skills; support from management; ongoing, companywide communication; making 5s standards part of daily work; and total employee involvement. "Sustain" guide participants in 5S implementation team to be aware of how other companies have implemented Sustain, create a plan to sustain the 5S System gains in the target area, and implement the Sustain plan. Training is an essential tool for building a shared understanding of the 5S System and developing the skills to support the 5S standards.
