ABSTRACT

Sn notes erratic occurrence and a tendency to colonise recently burnt areas, and records from arid country well within the range of the Cream-coloured Courser. The Afrotropical Region is the richest, with 11 species (Sn). 10 occur in Kenya, where seven breed, the Egyptian Plover may do so, the Madagascar Pratincole is a regular non-breeding visitor from Madagascar, and the Black-winged Pratincole a non-breeding migrant from the Palearctic. The Common Pratincole forms part of a superspecies with the Black-winged Pratincole (Sn), which is a vagrant to Kenya. A single bird with other pratincoles at L Bilisa 91A on 16 Feb 1985 is the first record of a vagrant in East Africa. Breeds on Madagascar and spends the Mar-Sept non-breeding season in coastal areas of Kenya and S Somalia. Temminck's Courser appears after the rains on the edge of its breeding range at semiarid Baringo 50A (St).
