ABSTRACT

72 species, with representatives in all zoogeographical regions. 52 (72%) occur in the Afrotropical Region, where 44 (85%) are endemic (HM). 22 species (30% of the world’s total and 42% of the Afrotropical’s) are recorded for Kenya. Of these, Williams’ Bush Lark (535) is endemic, one is an extralimital migrant from the Palearctic, one is an extralimital wanderer from Tanzania, and 19 (86%) breed, have bred, or are assumed to do so. The low detectability of some species, coupled with the modern disinclination to collect specimens, means that clusters of pre-1970 squares need not necessarily denote decline or range contraction. Many species are rated Cl or CO because they are hard to identify. FAWN-COLOURED LARK Mirafra africanoides
