ABSTRACT

252 species, mostly Oriental, but also extending to other zoogeographical regions. Of only 32 (13%) in the Afrotropical Region, 14 (44%) occur in Kenya. Hinde’s Pied Babbler is one of the very few Kenyan endemics. No migratory movements are known (Br). Many species can be at least temporarily obscure in dense vegetation, and concentrations of pre-1970 squares need not imply range contraction. Relatively high coverage estimates (C2) for the illadopsis species reflect their sedentary nature (Br) and restriction to reasonably well known country.
