ABSTRACT
H Antigen Proteus bacillus in normal flagellated form grows as a thin spreading film on nutrient agar, resembling mist produced by breathing on glass. The antigen of this bacillus was named ‘H’ denoting the ‘breatH’ form, by Edmund Weil (1880–1922) and Arthur Felix (1887–1956) in 1917.
