ABSTRACT
Traditionally, iterative methods for problems like (1.1) have been closely connected to splittings of the coefficient matrix. For a thorough treatment of such and related iterative methods we refer to Varga [391] and Young [420], as well as Faddeev and Faddeeva [174], Hageman and Young [225], Axelsson [31] and Hackbusch [222]. Hadjidimos [223] gives a comprehensive introduction to extensions of the basic iterations using extrapolation and relaxation techniques, while a historical account is given by Young [421].
