ABSTRACT

Avoiding tragic accidents is not only a requirement of law, but also a humanitarian right. Burning to death is a horrible way to end a life, yet it can be prevented. Allowing our welders or burners to work alone without a fire watch is chance-taking and could bring on a tragic occurrence. Falling to one's death is also a terrible way to die, and it is doubly unfortunate because it could have been prevented. Floor openings of buildings must be guarded by a standard railing, midrail and toeboards, or the installation of a cover over the opening. Suffocating to death is a dreadful way of dying. It can happen several ways. Bleeding to death is a frightening way to die. Loss of more than a quart of blood is a threat to a person's survival. Drowning accidents can and do happen to construction and shipbuilding workers. An electrocution is a dreadful mishap.
