The mechanical or electrical equipment needed to operate machinery and support systems are potential fire hazards due to faulty design, construction, or poor installation. Many fires disastrous to people and to property have occurred and will continue to occur unless proper consideration to the threat of fire is taken. Good housekeeping is considered by top fire professionals as the major factor in fire prevention and control. Of the many factors involving our employees' safety, getting out of the burning building is considered the most important. Exits should be unobstructed and the surrounding areas well lighted, with lighted exit signs over the doors. Arrows should also point the way out of the building so that in the event of a fire or fire drill exits can be easily found. Fire extinguishers are special pressurized devices that release chemicals or water that put out flames. They also help provide escape through a small fire.
