ABSTRACT

The effects of ageing with shear stress on the post-ageing stress-strain behaviour of a cementmixed sand and the associated development of yield locus were experimentally investigated. The post-ageing stress-strain behaviour was substantially different from that of unaged specimens under otherwise the same test conditions. A high stiffness zone developed, with quasi-elastic behaviour in the vicinity of the ageing stress point and a yield locus as the boundary. A part of the yield locus was located outside the ultimate failure plane for some stress paths with decreasing p’. The volumetric strain behaviour after yielding of aged specimens was controlled by the location of yielding point with respect to the potentially dilative zone and the loading stress path.
